AlluvialPUBLIC ART

Alluvial was a shortlisted artwork for the City of Ottawa. Comprised of three seating elements, the work uses simplified contemporary forms and natural motifs to translate its message. The artwork has been created to provide respite for those in need of a break, to act as wayfinding, and as meeting place for people to connect.

Alluvial combines imagery of river stones and flowing water and is inspired and informed by the nearby Jock River. The selection of materials including a finish to emulate oxidized iron, wood which will naturally weather, and limestone, are intended to be a harmonious combination evoking the passing of time on nature. The overall shapes of the benches are informed by river stones, worn and shaped over thousands of years. The pattern within the shapes depicts both the swirling and flowing motion of water, as well as the patterns of river rocks within the water.
