Nocturne is a necklace commissioned by Magpie Jewellery as part of the Benchworks series. A series where local artists are invited to collaborate with their goldsmith to create a limited edition piece. The owl and moon elements were carved and cast in the lost wax process using sterling silver. A silver chain and labradorite bead complete the piece.

Inspiration for this piece is gleaned from mythology. In these myths, everything that is beautiful glints; a moth’s wing, light reflected on hair, stars burning in the sky‚ all surrounded by darkness and shadow. Greek mythology also features prominently in the night sky as our constellations tell the story of the gods. These myths and fables converge in this piece, an owl in flight against the light of a full moon and a lone star.
